Zorro is a Spaniard-Mexican noble who, appalled by the tyranny and oppression in his hometown in California, created the persona in order to fight for the innocent. He is a master at hand to hand combat, a brilliant strategist, and a skilled fighter with both the sword and the whip. He rides a black horse called Tornado, who is his most trusted companion. His signature is carving a Z with his blade on his enemies, places he has been, or both.
Zorro's real name is Diego de la Vega, the son of California rancher Don Alejandro de la Vega. Coming home from studying in Spain, he finds that his beloved home has fallen to cruelty and injustice at the hands of those who were meant to serve and protect the people. Realising quickly that he'd never succeed against the local army as himself, he created the persona of Zorro, the Spanish word for Fox, while portraying Diego as a weak-willed individual who despises force, throwing his enemies off his trail.
